Understand what an answer engine wants
ChatGPT and Perplexity don't rank a list; they synthesize an answer. They pull from pages that clearly resolve a query, cite named sources, and state claims plainly. Your job is to make your page the easiest, most trustworthy one to lift from.
This is closer to "be the best answer" than "win a ranking."
Structure for the quote, not the scroll
Lead with the resolution. Put the answer hook — one direct, self-contained sentence — at the top, then expand. Use clear H2/H3 headings that mirror the sub-questions, so the engine can attribute each point.
The overlap with good writing is large: clarity and structure help readers and models alike.
Cite like you mean it
Name 3–5 authoritative sources and link them. An engine can point a reader to where a claim came from, which makes your page safer to surface. Verify each source is real and current — a fabricated or broken citation undermines the exact trust you're building.
BriefKit proposes the source list; you confirm it.
Cover the cluster, not just the keyword
One query has siblings: "how," "vs," "best." Include the people-also-ask set so the page matches what an engine expects around the topic. A page that answers the cluster looks complete; a page that answers one keyword looks thin.
